Admission criteria and entry schemes

To be offered a place to study at SIBT you need to meet the admission criteria, however if you have circumstances that do not fit the exact criteria, contact the admissions team at admissions@sibt.nsw.edu.au to have your case assessed.

Undergraduate applicants

Applicants with recent secondary education (within the past two years)

AUSTRALIAN YEAR 12 STUDENTS

ATARs are not used for admission to SIBT. Applicants must demonstrate successful completion of Australian Year 12 or its international equivalent. Assessment is based on a 50% average over all the units undertaken in Year 12. Students may wish to submit additional information as part of their application (statement of purpose and/or resume with supporting evidence).

OTHER ADMISSION OPTIONS

SIBT FOUNDATION PROGRAM

The SIBT Foundation Program bridges the gap between the qualifications students gain at high school and those needed to enter a SIBT diploma (equivalent to first year of university). The program units will depend on the diploma you wish to study. This program is not FEE HELP approved, and students will be required to pay up-front fees. Applicants with work and life experience (includes those who left secondary education more than two years ago)

FINISHED SECONDARY EDUCATION MORE THAN TWO YEARS AGO

SIBT welcomes post-school students, and considers relevant employment experience if supporting documentation is provided.

ENABLING COURSE OPTIONS

EMPLOYMENT EXPERIENCE

Employment experience will be considered for applicants over 21 years of age for all courses. You will need to provide documents to support your application.

SPECIAL TERTIARY ADMISSIONS TEST (STAT)

Post-school applicants may be admitted on the basis of the STAT Multiple Choice test.

Applicants with overseas qualifications

Australian citizens or permanent residents of Australia with overseas qualifications must contact SIBT to discuss eligibility for admission before submitting an application with UAC. 

All international qualifications are checked against the:

  • National Recognition Information Centre for the United Kingdom which is the UK National Agency providing official source of comparison information and advice on international education and training systems and overseas skills qualifications;
  • National Office of Overseas Skills Recognition guidelines published by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations for equivalence to Australian qualifications.

The qualification will be assessed according to the SIBT International Admissions requirements.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY

If you have overseas secondary or tertiary qualifications from countries where English is not the language of instruction, you must provide evidence of English language proficiency.

SIBT will accept the following language results:

  • Academic IELTS
  • TOEFL
  • relevant high school English results
  • completion of an accredited Academic English program recognised by SIBT.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants

SIBT recognises specific equity groups may have experienced disadvantage in education and employment in the past, including those from an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander background, people with a disability and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

Special consideration for admission to these applicants who have suffered educational disadvantage will be extended by SIBT.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who don’t meet the academic requirements may be admitted to a Foundation or Diploma program (depending on what level of high school they completed) and on the basis of demonstrable expertise and relevant work experience. Applicants are required to provide a Statement of Purpose, information on work experience and any studies undertaken since leaving high school.
