Admission criteria and entry schemes

To be offered a place in a course you must meet the course entrance requirements and be selected in competition with other eligible applicants.

Applicants must:

  • meet the academic and program entry requirements for their chosen course
  • meet the minimum English language requirement for their chosen course
  • be 18 years of age as at the commencement date of the course or unit.

Undergraduate applicants

Applicants with recent secondary education (within the past two years)

If you undertook your Australian Year 12 studies in 2018 or 2019, you must meet one of the following requirements:

  • successful completion of the HSC (or equivalent)
  • successful completion of the International Baccalaureate.

OTHER ADMISSION OPTIONS

LIMITED ATAR

MIT accepts the Limited ATAR for selection purposes.

Applicants with vocational education and training (VET) study

Students of the Tertiary Preparation Certificate will be considered for entry to most programs. Other completed TAFE qualifications such as the Certificate III, Certificate IV, Diploma and Advanced Diploma will also be considered.

Applicants with work and life experience (includes those who left secondary education more than 2 years ago)

There are pathways into some MIT courses. To discuss eligibility for admission before applying through UAC, contact MIT admission.

ENABLING COURSE OPTIONS

If you’ve missed out on a university place, the MIT Diploma can give you the pathway into second year at university.

SPECIAL TERTIARY ADMISSIONS TEST (STAT)

Post-school applicants may be admitted on the basis of the STAT Multiple Choice test

Applicants with overseas qualifications

There are commonly accepted overseas secondary qualifications that MIT may take into consideration. Check your qualification.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY

If you have qualifications from countries where English is not the standard language of instruction, you must provide evidence of English language proficiency.

International Year 12 applicants

General requirements

As an international student completing one of the following qualifications in 2019, you will apply for admission through UAC and will generally be selected on the basis of your performance in these studies (ie your ATAR or equivalent):

  • an Australian Year 12 qualification (either outside or in Australia)
  • an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma
  • a New Zealand National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) Level 3.

When assessing your application, MIT may take any or all of your qualifications or attempts at study into account.
