Acceptance and enrolment

Undergraduate applicants

AMC is an institute of the University of Tasmania (UTAS). AMC’s offer and enrolment correspondence is handled by UTAS and will be sent via email separately to a UAC offer. AMC offer letters provide acceptance and enrolment procedures and successful applicants are required to accept and enrol by a specified date.

Students who have successfully completed a vocational course at AMC or at a recognised TAFE institute may be able to transfer to related degree courses. Engineering students from other institutions may transfer to AMC courses in naval architecture, ocean engineering, and marine and offshore engineering. Exemptions will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis, with consideration given to prior learning and/or relevant professional experience.

Deferment of an offer is available to all applicants, for one year only.

Each room is heated, carpeted and furnished and there are shared toilet and shower facilities. Full meal service is available on weekdays, with self-catering facilities provided at weekends.

AMC also has 120 purpose-built studio apartments, which were completed in 2016. They are located at Inveresk, beside the North Esk River, are close to the CBD of Launceston and approximately four kilometres from Newnham.

Undergraduate applicants

When you study in a CSP course, you only have to pay part of the cost of your course (a student contribution) and the Australian Government pays the remainder of the cost. All AMC students must pay student contributions for a Commonwealth-supported place (CSP).

Students engaging in practical work on AMC’s vessels are required to complete the Elements of Shipboard Safety Certificate. AMC provides this training for those students who require it, at an additional cost.

UTAS fees.

Students are also required to pay a Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF). For full-time students the SSAF in 2018 was $298. If you are a part-time student, you will pay the amount of SSAF applicable to the credit points of the units you are enrolled in for the calendar year.
