Studying at Australian Maritime College

The internationally renowned Australian Maritime College (AMC) is Australia’s national institute for maritime and maritime-related education, training and research. It is one of seven founding members of the International Association of Maritime Universities and is a specialist institute of the University of Tasmania.

AMC is located in Launceston at the northern end of Tasmania — Australia’s picturesque island state. Boasting a multimillion dollar suite of specialist teaching and learning facilities and with a curriculum focused on developing multidisciplinary knowledge and skills, as well as global perspectives and social responsibility, our graduates are equipped and inspired to respond to opportunities and challenges in an ever-changing world. Our course offerings are developed in collaboration with industry and government bodies, which is why our highly skilled graduates are in demand around the globe.

AMC offers a wide range of courses at all levels, including vocational certificates, diplomas, undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs, and higher degrees by research.

Maritime studies offers the opportunity to get involved with the world’s largest industries, and create and manage the world’s largest and most complex machines and structures. You could positively impact the world by working on the future of ocean and offshore-based renewable energy, or create and refine the efficiency of global trade to deliver sustainability benefits.

The Australian Maritime College is the strategic educational provider for Australia’s $90bn Naval Shipbuilding Plan, which requires thousands of maritime specialists across engineering, management, seafaring, and maritime operations. You could be creating the next generation of naval ships, or helping guide the logistics required to support their construction and maintenance.

No matter your passion, there is a wide range of maritime study options available:

  • maritime engineering (marine and offshore engineering, ocean engineering and naval architecture)
  • global logistics and maritime management
  • international and coastal seafaring.

International Year 12 students apply directly to the University of Tasmania.
