Uni applications closing – but there are still options

30 Jan 2026

IF you’re finalising your plans for 2026, university study could still be an option. Some courses are still accepting applications for semester 1, 2026. Be quick though: applications through the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) close at 11.59pm on Friday 6 February.

Already, UAC has made more than 101,000 offers to domestic undergraduate applicants – but there are still spots available.

Chief Strategy and Engagement Officer, Kim Paino encourages prospective students to explore all their options.

‘If you didn’t get an offer or are seeking an offer to a more preferred course, there are still some courses with vacancies for semester 1. Our advice is to contact universities directly to check if there is still space and also to find out whether your application will be competitive. It's important not to waste your application on unattainable or unrealistic preferences.’

Also, make sure you are eligible for any course requirements. Some programs have special entry criteria, prerequisites, or early closing dates that may now be too late to complete.

If a bachelor degree isn’t the way right now, there are alternatives. Pathway programs, TAFE courses and private college options can all lead into a degree – and could even be the perfect way to start your journey. Find out more about pathway options and entry schemes.

Applications open again on Wednesday 8 April for semester 2, 2026 and semester 1, 2027 study so there are more opportunities ahead.
