UAC admissions snapshot highlights demand for health studies

23 Mar 2026

AT the close of the 2025–26 admissions period, the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) processed more than 79,300 undergraduate applications and made over 105,900 offers* through its centralised admissions service.

UAC also processed an additional 135,900† direct applications on behalf of individual universities,‡ bringing the total number of applications handled to more than 215,200.

A snapshot of application and offer data released by UAC provides insights into applicant demographics – including age, gender and preferred fields of study – as well as application and offer trends.

Health was the most popular field of study this year, for both NSW Year 12 and non-Year 12 applicants. Overall, 26 per cent of applicants listed a health-related course as their first preference.

UAC Chief Strategy and Engagement Officer Kim Paino said demand for Health is understandably strong. ‘Health is a broad field with direct links to employment after graduation so it’s not surprising that its popular with students, especially at a time when study costs and employability are their key concerns,’ Ms Paino said.

More detailed statistics are available on UAC’s website.

* There are more offers made than there are applications because, while applicants can only receive one offer in each round, they can receive an offer in more than one round.

† Applicants may apply directly through UAC portals to several universities, so this figure is not the count of unique applicants, but the total number of applications received. Direct application figures include postgraduate applicants.

‡ UAC processes direct applications on behalf of Australian Catholic University, Australian College of Physical Education, Australian National University, CQUniversity, Macquarie University, University of New England, University of Newcastle, University of Tasmania, University of Technology Sydney, University of Wollongong, UNSW Sydney and Western Sydney University.
