New scheme champions elite athletes and performers

02 Jun 2025

ELITE athletes and performers whose rigorous training and performance commitments have impacted their Year 12 studies can now benefit from a new centralised scheme, launched today by the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC).

The Elite Athlete and Performer Scheme (EAPS) offers eligible students adjustment factors (bonus points) to enhance their selection rank when applying for eligible courses at participating universities.

Designed to acknowledge both academic and extracurricular achievements, EAPS is aimed at students who have had to balance high-level training, competition, rehearsal, or performance alongside their education.

‘The scheme recognises the unique challenges faced by young people performing at the top of their discipline – whether on the field, stage, or studio – and ensures their commitment and excellence are considered when they apply for university,’ said Kim Paino, UAC Chief Strategy and Engagement Officer.

Applicants can apply and submit supporting documentation through a streamlined process built into their UAC application for university entry. Applications are assessed using standardised criteria and common assessment guidelines and adjustments awarded by each institution according to its own policies.

The scheme is open to athletes from both funded and unfunded sports and welcomes applications from individuals of all abilities.
