Strong demand for Equity Scholarships – but there’s still time

01 Dec 2025

APPLICATIONS for Equity Scholarships through the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) have surpassed 6,100 this year, matching the strong demand seen in 2024.

Equity Scholarships assist students from low socio-economic backgrounds who face barriers to education, including living in regional or remote areas, caring for family members or managing a long-term medical condition.

There are two categories of scholarships – the Indigenous Student Success Program (funded by the Australian Government) and Institution Equity Scholarships (funded by universities). Scholarships offer a range of support options including cash, bursaries and accommodation.

Chief Strategy and Engagement Officer, Kim Paino said, ‘With cost-of-living pressures continuing to build, it’s vital that students facing financial hardship can access the support that helps them begin – and stay in – university study.’

Applying for an Equity Scholarships is free, however there is a fee to apply for undergraduate admission through UAC.

Year 12 students are encouraged to apply for Equity Scholarships before 11.59pm Tuesday 9 December to receive a scholarship offer in time for December Round 2 – the main offer round for Year 12 students. They can then have all their opportunities in front of them when considering their options for next year.
