Year 12 offers are out: what to do next

23 Dec 2025

Congratulations to the thousands of hopeful university applicants who have received an offer to study at one of UAC’s participating institutions in 2026.

Depending on your situation, here's what to do next:

You got an offer to your number 1 courseThat's great! Go ahead and accept it and follow the uni's instructions for enrolment.
You got an offer but it's not to your preferred course
  • Accept the offer.
  • Move the offered course to the bottom of your preference list (or remove it altogether).
  • Make sure you have your preferred course at the top of your preference list.

If you get an offer to your preferred course in the next offer round, you can:

  • accept the new offer
  • withdraw your acceptance of the first offer (this will free up your place in the course for someone else and ensure you are not charged tuition fees).

Changing your preferences after you receive an offer

Note that not all institutions make offers in December Round 2: check institutions participating in each offer round.

Also, some institutions will wait until January Round 1 or January Round 2 to make offers to a small number of courses (eg medical degrees). Check with the relevant institutions about your selected courses.

You haven't received any offers yet
  • Read the information above pointing out that not all institutions make offers in December Round 2, and that offers to some courses are held over to January.
  • If you were expecting an offer in December Round 2, reassess your preferences. Check the selection ranks required to receive an offer to each course in December Round 2. Make sure you include at least one course that has a lowest selection rank that matches (or is less than) your ATAR. Don't hesitate to contact the institutions if you would like more information about your chances of being selected.
  • Consider including a diploma course in your preference list. They usually require a lower selection rank than bachelor degrees in the same subject area and, if you do well in your first year, you can often transfer to the second year of the related bachelor degree.
  • Lock in your preferences for January Round 1 offers by 11.59pm on Tuesday 30 December.
  • In your application, make sure you have selected 'Yes' to the question asking you if you'd like to receive information about alternative study options. This will allow institutions to contact you about other courses.
You haven't applied for any courses yetIt’s not too late; if you apply by 11.59pm on Friday 2 January you'll be considered for offers in January Round 2 (22 January).

Check with the relevant institutions to make sure there will still be places in the courses that interest you.

Applications open on 8 April for the second half of 2026 and semester 1, 2027.
