Year 12 offers are out: what to do next

26 Jan 2022

Congratulations to the thousands of hopeful university applicants who have received an offer to study at one of UAC’s participating institutions in 2022.

Institutions will now make progressively smaller numbers of offers in February and March for courses with vacancies.

So, depending on your situation, here's what to do next:

Got an offer to your number 1 course That's great! Go ahead and accept it and follow the uni's instructions for enrolment.
Got an offer but it's not to your preferred course
  • Accept the offer.
  • Move the offered course to the bottom of your preference list (or remove it altogether).
  • Make sure you have your preferred course at the top of your preference list.

If you get an offer to your preferred course in the next offer round, you can:

  • accept the new offer
  • withdraw your acceptance of the first offer (this will free up your place in the course for someone else).

Changing your preferences after you receive an offer

Haven't receive any offers yet
  • Reassess your preferences. Is your ATAR in the ballpark of the required selection rank? Check the selection ranks required to receive an offer to each course in January Round 2: January Round 2 lowest selection ranks.
  • Consider including a diploma course in your preference list. They usually require a lower selection rank than bachelor degrees in the same subject area and, if you do well in your first year, you can often transfer to the second year of the related bachelor degree.
  • Contact the institution to make sure there are still vacancies in your preferred courses. Ask them if you will be competitive for an offer.
  • Lock in your preferences before the deadline for the next offer round. (See the table under 'Final offer rounds for semester 1 courses'.)
  • In your application, make sure you have selected 'Yes' to the question asking you if you'd like to receive information about alternative study options. This will allow institutions to contact you about other courses.
Haven't applied for any courses yet It’s not too late, but not all courses will still have vacancies. Check with the relevant institutions to make sure there are still places in the courses that interest you.

Applications close at midnight on Friday 4 February.

Applications open in April for courses starting in the second half of this year and semester 1, 2023.
