About

At La Trobe, you’ll be studying at the only university in Victoria with a dedicated undergraduate archaeology degree.

In our Bachelor of Archaeology, you’ll benefit from both a hands-on and academic perspective as you learn about archaeological fieldwork methods, ethical heritage management, ancient societies and civilisations, and scientific methods of archaeological practice.

You’ll also get real-world experience with work placement opportunities with our industry or government partners. This means you’ll graduate with the specialised skills, experience and confidence to launch your archaeological career.

Practical experience

During this course, you will have the opportunity to participate in a work-based learning (WBL) placement experience, designed to allow you to extend your formal academic learning beyond the classroom. The WBL experience will provide the opportunity to bring your learning from the university and test out your knowledge in a professional real-world environment.

Admission criteria

Applicants with recent secondary education

Subject adjustments: Applicants who successfully complete one of the following HSC or equivalent Year 12 subjects will have their selection rank increased by one point per study:

  • Band 3 in Agriculture, Ancient History, Biology, Chemistry, Earth and Environmental Science, Geography, Modern History, Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE), Physics, Society and Culture, Studies of Religion II,
  • Band 2 in any language other than English.

Selection ranks can be increased by a maximum of five points.

Subject proficiency: Demonstrated proficiency equivalent to stated Year 12 prerequisites.
