The Diploma of Music with major in Music Production at JMC Academy is a practical, 8-month course that equips aspiring producers, composers and beatmakers with the foundational skills to create and produce original music across styles and platforms.
From your first trimester, you'll dive into studio sessions using professional DAWs like ProTools, Logic, Ableton Live and Native Instruments, gaining hands-on experience with both live and virtual instruments. With a strong focus on musicianship, studio workflow and personal artistic development, this course prepares you to turn musical ideas into fully produced tracks.
You’ll also learn how to adapt to evolving technology and start building the business and collaborative skills needed to thrive in today’s music and media industries.
Digital audio workstations (DAWs), music production techniques, studio workflow, MIDI sequencing, sound design, recording and mixing, music theory and musicianship, songwriting fundamentals, and collaboration with artists across performance and songwriting.
Music producer, film and TV composer, resident/staff writer, advertising creative (jingle writer), music publisher, music teacher, electronic music artist, label manager, sound designer, recording artist.
Students workshop and perform original songs from the outset, receiving feedback from industry professionals and collaborating across JMC’s creative disciplines in real-world project settings.

Audition: All applicants must showcase their talents at an audition to demonstrate their style and musicianship. Two contrasting pieces of music of your own choice must be performed – either with a live accompanist or backing track – and should not exceed 10 minutes in total. All students will receive feedback on their performance on the day.
Completion of an Australian Year 12 (or equivalent). No ATAR required. Minimum age 17.
Interview: Once we've received your application, we'll give you a call and organise for you to come in for a consultation with one of our student recruitment advisers. During this appointment they'll be able to confirm your application details, assess the best course study options for you.
