About

This degree will equip you with the conceptual and practical knowledge to begin a career in the visual arts. Working with accomplished artists, art historians and industry leaders, you’ll learn how to navigate and succeed in the visual arts sector. In the first year, you will undertake foundation courses in drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking, jewellery and small objects and indigenous art and protocols. In your second year, you will specialise with a major in either painting, sculpture or photography. Engage with industry and build employment options by working with guest artists and curators, undertaking work placements, participating in exhibitions, masterclasses and study tours. Work on projects for real clients through our QCADLive work-integrated program, LiveArt, producing commercial murals and public art installations. The skills and knowledge you gain will serve as the foundation for further studies in education, research or professional practice.

Portfolio applicants will be invited to attend an interview at Queensland College of Art and Design, Brisbane City (South Bank) or the Gold Coast campus or via Teams on Wednesday 21 May 2025.

Visit Griffith University website for details on portfolio and interview requirements including how to pay for and submit your portfolio. Applicants should also refer to this Portfolio website for the most up to date advice and messaging. Applicants are encouraged to submit a portfolio and attend an interview even if confident they will meet the ATAR/Rank Guarantee. Applicants must pay the $55 non-refundable portfolio submission fee to Griffith University.

To be considered for portfolio admission for Trimester 2, 2025, applicants must apply to UAC, pay the portfolio fee and submit their portfolio to Griffith University by 30 April 2025. Applicants will still be able to apply after this date and be considered for ATAR/Rank admission.
