About

The Bachelor of Criminology and Justice provides deep insight into criminal behaviour and the effect our justice system has on our future actions.

Many of the ACAP teaching staff are qualified practitioners in the field. Classes are taught by lawyers, police officers, criminologists, psychologists, and other professionals who bring compelling real-life case studies to the classroom. Work placement offers hands-on experience in a selection of organisations and sectors such as Victoria Police, the Department of Justice, in the court system or at law firms, in the community welfare sector or at correctional centres.

With elective units covering a range of areas including law, forensic psychology, policing, terrorism, mental health and youth justice, students are able to complete electives that complement their career aspirations or wider interests. The full course is made up of 24 units.

Abnormal psychology, case management, corrections, criminal justice, criminal law, criminology, drugs and crime, forensic psychology, indigenous studies, international criminal justice, investigations, legal process, mental health, police studies, sentencing, terrorism and society, transnational crime, victimology, youth justice.

Practical experience

After successful completion of four trimesters, students are eligible for work placement. Our program offers hands-on work placement experience in a selection of organisations such as Victoria Police, the Department of Justice, in the court system or at law firms, in the community welfare sector, or at correctional centres.

Admission criteria

Applicants with recent secondary education

Recommended studies: Mathematics Advanced, any 2 units of English.

Qualification: One of the following:

  • completion of a Senior Secondary Certificate of Education (or equivalent)
  • completion of a Certificate IV or above (or equivalent)
  • admission to an undergraduate degree at an Australian university (or equivalent)

and participate in a screening interview (typically by phone though online can be arranged if required).

ATARs are not a necessary component of the ACAP admissions criteria. We assess undergraduate applicants on other applicable admission criteria.

Applicants with higher education study

Applicants with work and life experience

Interview: If you will be aged over 21 years by the start date of your selected trimester you must participate in a screening interview (typically by phone though online can be arranged if required).
