Our Bachelor of Psychological Science and Counselling gives you deep insight into why we think and act the way we do, what impact society has on our actions, and how to empower people to act differently. Included in this course is industry placement and counselling client contact, giving you the hands-on experience ACAP is known for.
This course offers an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council-accredited three-year sequence featuring a major in psychology and a major in counselling, combining the strengths of each discipline and providing benefits to graduates in knowledge and career outcomes.
For 540221: This course is offered on-campus or through a combination of online and blended delivery. Blended delivery consists of a combination of face-to-face and online learning. Mandatory on-campus workshops are a component of this course.
This course is also available on-campus in Brisbane, Melbourne or Perth.
Biology, evidence-based approaches, intercultural diversity and indigenous psychology, learning and memory, learning and cognition, lifespan development, professional issues and applications, psychological measurement and assessment, psychopathology, research methodology, social psychology, the individual, society and culture.
Mental health, disability, employment, government, health, community, general counselling, alcohol and other drugs abuse counselling (with further training), bereavement and loss counselling, family and relationships counselling, welfare, immigration, youth services, human resources, recruitment, market research, training and aged care.
This course is accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) and the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA).
This course includes 200 hours experience in a professional placement, with 40 hours of face-to-face client counselling. This placement is linked with two clinical supervision units over two consecutive trimesters. This course also includes 140 hours of volunteering which is completed before placement in the final year.
The Bachelor of Psychological Science (Hons) is available as an additional year (or part-time eqv). Entry to the Honours program is a competitive merit-based application process.
