About

The Juris Doctor (JD) is a professional entry masters degree that satisfies the academic degree requirements for admission to practice as an Australian lawyer. The Juris Doctor commences with an intensive subject that is tailored to inducting  students to the Australian Legal System, Western Sydney University, the School of Law, and the wider legal community.

The degree is available to graduate students looking for a highly regarded law qualification with a strong focus on student employability across diverse careers in law and beyond. Students will have the opportunity to enhance their employability profile and knowledge of the legal industry, including with the professional subjects which have a strong focus on clinical legal engagements with a diverse range of industry partners. Students will also engage in legal research projects which includes the option for tailored support for those considering future enrolment into a PhD program.

Admission criteria

Either:

  • undergraduate degree, or higher in any discipline other than law; or
  • diploma, undergraduate degree, or higher, in law from an overseas jurisdiction; or
  • applicants may also submit evidence of equivalent general or professional qualifications and/or experience that demonstrates potential to pursue graduate studies (assessed by the Program Convenor or Deputy Dean).
