About

Students of bushfire protection at Western Sydney University will be able to assess and advise on developments in bushfire prone areas as they relate to the building code and the relevant standards. Students will also be equipped to develop alternative solutions and consult on bushfire fighting techniques and emergency management.

This program provides a contemporary and critical approach to management, planning and development in bushfire-prone areas. The programs take a balanced approach to training in fundamental knowledge and problem-solving skills, building regulations, bushfire behaviour, emergency management, planning and building in bushfire prone areas. Students will also gain knowledge in the practical assessment and approval process adopted by the industry. Bushfire protection is taught by leading industry experts as well as academics in the university.

Admission criteria

undergraduate degree, or higher, in building, building surveying, construction management, planning, urban studies, environmental studies, natural resource management, property development, quantity surveying, architecture, landscape architecture, science, emergency management, land-use planning, local government, land surveying, or public sector management and two years’ full-time equivalent related work experience.

Applicants seeking admission on the basis of work experience must support their application with a Statement of Service for all work experience listed on the application.
