About

With the growing need to understand fire safety engineering principles, this program is relevant to professionals developing alternative solutions using the National Construction Code (Australian Building Codes Board) and the Fire Engineering Guidelines.

This program provides the special skills and knowledge to develop, assess and evaluate fire safety engineering solutions for the built environment. Western Sydney University fire safety engineering programs have nearly two decades of history and are well recognised by the building industry nationally and internationally.

Admission criteria

Either:

  • undergraduate degree, or higher, in engineering, building, construction management, building surveying, bushfire protection, architecture or science; or
  • diploma, or higher, in engineering, building, construction management, building surveying, building design, fire systems design, property management or science and two years full-time equivalent professional and/or voluntary work experience in the relevant fields in the construction industry, fire systems design (fire protection) industry, local government or state fire services; or
  • certificate III, or higher, in public safety (fire management or operations), plumbing, electrical or other trade qualification and five years’ full-time equivalent work experience in the fire protection industry or within a State fire service.

Applicants seeking admission on the basis of work experience must support their application with a Statement of Service for all work experience listed on the application.
