About

This program provides the special skills and knowledge to develop, assess and evaluate fire safety engineering solutions for the built environment. With the growing need to understand fire safety engineering principles, this program is relevant to professionals developing alternative solutions using the National Construction Code (Australian Building Codes Board) and the Fire Engineering Guidelines.

Western Sydney University fire safety engineering programs have nearly two decades of history and are well recognised by the building industry nationally and internationally. Students will understand building regulations, fire dynamics, building response to fires, human behaviour and risk assessment, as well as develop knowledge of the practical design process adopted by the industry.

This postgraduate program has been designed as a distance learning program. However, select subjects require attendance at intensive block-style compulsory workshops. These workshops include fieldwork, site visits and industry tours. Many other subjects offer optional workshops. Students are encouraged to attend the optional workshops to gain the benefit of face-to-face interaction.
