About
The Master of Public Health is a specialised degree for students who wish to pursue research careers in public health, or whose future career will require them to interpret and apply the findings of research. It is intended for students who are from public health disciplines and want to enhance their research and career prospects.
The Master of Public Health is a flexible degree designed to give students a broad introduction to public health and to provide the skills and knowledge to define, critically assess and resolve public health issues within a community. This flexible and interest driven program allows students to develop, analyse and implement policy, and to plan and evaluate health services and programs whilst catering for their individual career goals.
The program is structured in a manner that responds to the constantly changing health and social issues both at local and international levels. The degree is composed of eight core public health subjects, plus a choice of one of two specialisations comprised of four subjects. The specialisations available are health promotion and public health research.
Admission criteria
- an undergraduate degree with a minimum Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 65, plus one of the following: a one-year Honours degree, Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma. At least one qualification must be in a field relevant to public health; OR
- an undergraduate degree with a minimum WAM of 65, plus significant professional or volunteer experience in a field relevant to public health (equivalent of 2 years full time).
Examples of relevant fields include medicine, nursing, allied health (nutrition science, dietetics, exercise science), health sciences, biomedical sciences, dentistry, sociology, behavioural and social sciences, psychology, human services, emergency services, environmental health, veterinary science, health administration, business, management, law, science, mathematics and statistics, economics, policy studies, development studies.
Fees and charges
This course will be offered as a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP). This means the Australian government will subsidise your tuition fees by up to 75%. To be eligible for this fee subsidy, you must meet the following criteria: Be a domestic student, i.e. an Australian or New Zealand citizen, a permanent resident of Australia or a permanent Australian Humanitarian visa holder.
