If you possess a health-related degree and wish to move into a career in physiotherapy, UC’s Master of Physiotherapy will help you make this transition quickly and confidently. This two-year full-time course will help leverage your existing qualification and combine it with a comprehensive integrated learning schedule to ensure you meet Australian Physiotherapy Association requirements – and your own career objectives.

This course offers a high volume of work integrated learning and the opportunity to gain clinical practice experience using theoretical and practical components of your studies. Comprising of five, five-week placements, these hands-on learning opportunities will cover a wide range of areas such as acute care units, rehabilitation centres, neurological units, residential care facilities, pediatric units, and aged care facilities.  Patients with a variety of medical issues such as spinal cord injuries and Parkinson’s disease will also regularly visit to discuss their conditions, and you’ll also have the chance to work with high-performance athletes looking to improve their physical and personal objectives.

The Master of Physiotherapy is unique to UC, and has been designed to help you graduate faster and enter the physiotherapy industry with a highly competitive edge.

Admission criteria

  • A bachelor degree in health science* or equivalent as approved by the University.
  • Successfully completed units of study in musculoskeletal anatomy, advanced functional anatomy, physiology of exercise and biomechanics.
  • Above-average grades. Admission to the course will be based on grade point average (GPA) and applicants generally require a GPA of 5.3 out of 7 to be considered for admission.

* Health science disciplines include: exercise physiology, exercise science, exercise and sports science, medical science, biomedical science, health science, human movement, physiotherapy, physical therapy, applied science, human biology, medicine, rehabilitation science, human nutrition, occupational therapy.

Closing dates

The on time closing date for applications is 30 April 2024, however, applications can be submitted until 30 June 2024. On time applications will be given assessment and offer priority. Applications submitted after 30 April 2024 will be considered if there are sufficient places still available.

Clinical experience

All students in the course are required to:

  • complete clinical practice placements in blocks of time, often outside of teaching time
  • meet ACT and NSW health department requirements by presenting a complete immunisation schedule and first-aid certificates (including CPR) prior to commencing clinical practice
  • undergo an Australian Federal Police Record Check prior to undertaking clinical experience in the ACT, and a NSW Police check before undertaking practice in NSW.

These clinical practice placements are essential to the program and assessed.
