About

Are you a passionate graduate who’s keen to positively shape Australia’s young minds? UC’s Master of Secondary Teaching will provide you with the knowledge and skills to pursue your passion and enter a career as a teacher of Years 7–12 students.

Delivered in line with the Australian Curriculum, you will discover pedagogical problem-based learning approaches within classroom and school settings and ways to reflect on your professional learning objectives. This postgraduate course for pre-service teachers is informed by the latest research and includes 60 days of professional experience within secondary schools throughout the Canberra region.

Like all Teacher Quality Institute (TQI) accredited education programs, UC’s Master of Secondary Teaching requires students to successfully complete a Professional Experience component and pass the moderated Teaching Performance Assessment (TPA) that takes place within a school.

Admission criteria

  • A discipline-specific bachelor degree or equivalent as approved by the University relevant to the Australian curriculum or other recognised areas of schooling provision, including at least a major study in one teaching area and, preferably, a second teaching area comprising at least a minor study.
  • All applicants will be required to undertake a Course Advice and Suitability for the Profession Interview (CASPI) at which their suitability for the teaching profession will be assessed.  Further information about the CASPI can be found here.
  • Applicants must meet the non-standard English language proficiency requirements for this course.
