About

The Master of Counselling and Psychotherapy is based on a rich understanding of the complexities of human behaviour. It teaches advanced understanding of counselling and psychotherapy practice, and helps develop skills required to practice as a professional counsellor and psychotherapist in specialised therapeutic areas.

The course focuses on the interpersonal relationship between client and therapist. It includes a field placement of 240 hours, including 80 hours of face-to-face client counselling.

Admission criteria

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • successful completion of an undergraduate degree in a cognate field of study (counselling, psychotherapy, psychology, social work, pastoral care, social welfare, mental health or palliative care nursing, medicine, occupational
    therapy); and
  • complete an Inherent Requirements Checklist and Personal Statement
  • Provide contact information for two (2) referees (professional within a helping profession) who can comment on your suitability to into counselling. Referees will be required to complete reference report on your behalf
  • complete a national police check within the first trimester of enrolment.

ACAP’s Master of Counselling and Psychotherapy is accredited by the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA) and the Australian Counselling Association (ACA).
