About

The Graduate Diploma of Counselling is designed for students who have a degree in another discipline and want to qualify as a counsellor without undertaking an undergraduate qualification. This course involves placement and covers topics related to mental health and wellbeing, contemporary counselling and multicultural counselling. Graduates will gain practical skills to become a counsellor in the public, private and community sectors.

Admission criteria

Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:

  • completion of an undergraduate degree in any field from an accredited institute of
    higher education
  • completion of a higher education advanced diploma and relevant work experience
  • completion of an associate degree in a similar field of study and relevant work
    experience

Applicants must also:

  • complete an Inherent Requirements Checklist and Personal Statement
  • provide contact information for two (2) referees (professional or personal) who can comment on your suitability to enter into counselling
  • complete a national police check within the first trimester of enrolment.

ACAP’s Graduate Diploma of Counselling is accredited by the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA) and the Australian Counselling Association (ACA).
