The Associate Degree in Applied Health Science (Dermal Therapy) is one of the highest qualification in Higher Education available in Australia to prepare you for a career in the dynamic field of Dermal Therapy. This degree is divided into four streams:

  • Clinical Aesthetics Practice

In your first year of study, you will be introduced to the fundamentals of professional and clinical practice while learning about skin and the integumentary system, human structure and function, and dermal therapy techniques. You will progress to more advanced subjects in your second year, such as learning about differential diagnoses in skin disorders, the chemistry of cosmetics, and advanced dermal interventions.

In the practical clinics of the Associate Degree in Applied Health Science (Dermal Therapy), you will gain hands-on experience with the following treatments, technologies, and modalities:

  • Hydrodermabrasion
  • Chemical Peels
  • Laser/IPL Hair Reduction
  • Skin Needling
  • Laser Tattoo Removal
  • Laser/IPL for Pigmentation and Vascular Removal

You will be equipped to own and operate your own clinic or work in Laser and Dermal Therapy Clinics, Wellness and Healthy Ageing, Dermatology, Cosmetic Research and Development, and Cosmetic Medicine and Surgery Clinics.

Admission criteria

For admission into the Associate Degree in Applied Health Science (Dermal Therapy), applicants must meet one of the following entry requirements:

  • Successful completion of the relevant State’s HSC (or equivalent) with an ATAR or equivalent of 65 or above
  • Successful completion of a VET or HE Diploma or above
  • Admission to candidature for an undergraduate degree at an Australian University
  • Satisfactory completion of an approved Tertiary Preparation Program, Tertiary Orientation Program or a Foundation Year Program offered by a University, an accredited higher education provider or a Registered Training Organisation.

Additionally, applicants must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age; and
  • participate in an interview (if required); and
  • where English is not the first language, evidence of English Proficiency at IELTS 6.0 with no band below 5.5, or equivalent to be provided.

ACHW will also consider any other documentation which demonstrates an applicant’s academic and time management skills including from formal studies, workplace activities or research. If an applicant is unable to demonstrate their academic study skills, they may be required to complete and pass an Academic Study Skills Test.
