^ The annual tuition fees listed are indicative fees for study in Year 1, in the 2024 calendar year only. Fees are based on a full-time student enrolment load of 48 credit points per year, or 1.0 Equivalent Full-Time Student Load (1.0 EFTSL). If your study load for the year is more or less than 1.0 EFTSL, your tuition fee will differ. Importantly, tuition fees are subject to annual review by the University, and will increase each calendar year of your study, effective at the start of each calendar year. About

The combined Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Advanced Studies (Education) will give you a professional qualification to teach in secondary schools in the areas of humanities and social sciences, mathematics and science.

You will gain a strong practical and theoretical preparation for teaching. The course covers professional teaching, Aboriginal education, special and inclusive education, international education, and information and communications technology.

School observations and work-based training, offered in partnership with participating schools, are integral components of the professional experience offered in partnership with participating schools. These experiences will provide you with the opportunity to develop your teaching skills and professional understanding of how to work in schools.

For language studies: Pathways are available for applicants with no prior language experience, as well as for those with prior experience in the respective language of study.

This course is offered full-time or as structured part-time mode, daytime only. All professional experience placements are only undertaken fulltime.

Areas of study

Core studies in education plus intensive study and professional experience. A major in a teaching area and study in a second teaching area. In the final year of your combined degree, you will undertake advanced coursework and a substantial project.

Teaching areas are: Aboriginal studies; biology; business studies; chemistry; commerce; drama, earth and environmental sciences; economics; English; geography, health and physical education; history (modern or ancient), languages: Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Hebrew (modern or classical), Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latin, Modern Greek or Spanish; Mathematics; physics.

Career opportunities

Teacher in secondary schools in areas including English, drama, history, mathematics, TESOL, geography, economics and languages; curriculum consultant; educational administrator; educational researcher; government policy adviser.

Assumed knowledge: For 2024: none From 2025: For Mathematics major, minor or teaching area: Mathematics advanced or higher (depending on units chosen). For Physics major, minor or teaching area: Physics. For Biology major, minor or teaching area: Biology.

Bridging courses are available for students who have not studied the assumed knowledge during secondary school.
