About

In the Bachelor of Mathematics Education, you will develop your mathematical knowledge and professional teaching skills, while completing extensive professional experience. You may also have opportunities for rural and international professional experiences, and to join international cultural immersion programs. 

During this four-year degree, you will study a combination of maths, education, general subjects and personal interest topics. Mathematics subjects including calculus, algebra, statistics and mathematical modelling are complemented with education subjects about teaching and learning strategies including learning and development, pedagogy (the method and practice of teaching), professional teaching skills, curriculum studies and meeting the needs of students.

UOW Education has strong community ties with schools and an extensive professional experience program. You will also have access to academic staff and career consultants, who provide services and support to increase your employability.

Teaching mathematics in government and non-government secondary schools and related occupations in commercial, industrial and government areas.

This degree is accredited by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA). It is recognised nationally as well as in the UK, Asia and Canada. All students completing a NSW teacher education course will need to pass an approved literacy and numeracy test.

Extensive professional experience throughout your degree, which allows you to learn by observation and apply your skills in the classroom. You may also have opportunities for rural and international professional experiences, and to study overseas with UOW's international exchange and study abroad partners, and international cultural immersion programs.

Prerequisites

All applicants must have studied the equivalent of Mathematics Advanced or higher at year 12 level.

Admission criteria

Applicants with recent secondary education

Assumed knowledge: Mathematics Advanced (Band 4), any 2 units of English.

Recommended studies: Mathematics Extension 1.
