La Trobe's Bachelor of Computer Science will help you gain the technical skills to adapt to emerging technologies across an increasingly digital world. As well as your technical subjects, you'll build the human skills you need for the workplace.

Carefully aligned to meet industry needs, you'll choose from four majors – artificial intelligence, software engineering, cloud analytics or data science – so you can prepare for a specialised career in computer science.

Practical experience

During this course, you will have the opportunity to participate in a Work Based Learning (WBL) placement experience, designed to allow you to extend your formal academic learning beyond the classroom. Prerequisites

One of English Standard, English Advanced (Band 2), English as an Additional Language or Dialect (Band 3) plus Band 2 in one of Mathematics Standard 2, Mathematics Advanced or Mathematics Extension 2.

Admission criteria

Applicants with recent secondary education

Subject adjustments: Applicants who successfully complete one of the following HSC or equivalent Year 12 subjects will have their selection rank increased by one point per study:

  • Band 3 in Agriculture, Biology, Chemistry, Earth and Environmental Science, Engineering Studies, Mathematics Standard 2, Mathematics Advanced, Mathematics Extension 2, Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE), Physics, Software Design & Development;
  • Band 2 in any Language other than English.

Selection ranks can be increased by a maximum of five points.

Subject proficiency: Demonstrated proficiency equivalent to stated Year 12 prerequisites.
