About

In our Associate Degree in Urban and Regional Environments, you’ll get hands-on skills in planning and design while building your understanding of sustainability from regional, urban and global perspectives.

You’ll gain real-world experience with community engagement and evaluation. Previous students have participated in a range of field trips, from country towns in rural Victoria to metropolitan cities in Asia and Europe. When you graduate you can apply to move directly into the third year of our Bachelor of Planning (Honours).

Planning, regional environments, urban environments.

Career opportunities

Junior and entry level roles in the planning and environment management departments of local and state governments, regional bodies, and the private sector. Possible roles include: planning assistant, planning administration officer, community property assistant.

Practical experience

During this course, you can participate in supervised Work Based Learning (WBL) placements designed to allow you to practice newly acquired skills, behaviours and knowledge while integrating theory with practice. The placement will immerse you in professional work culture, enabling you to develop and further enhance your skills.

Prerequisites

One of English Standard (Band 2), English Advanced (Band 2) or English as an Additional Language or Dialect (Band 3).

Admission criteria

Applicants with recent secondary education

Subject adjustments: Applicants who successfully complete one of the following HSC or equivalent Year 12 subjects will have their selection rank increased by one point per study:

  • Band 3 in Ancient History, Business Studies, Earth and Environmental Science, Economics, Financial Services, Geography, Legal Studies, Modern History, Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE), Studies of Religion II or Society and Culture
  • Band 2 in any language other than English

Selection ranks can be increased by a maximum of five points.

Subject proficiency: Demonstrated proficiency equivalent to stated Year 12 prerequisites.
