About

In La Trobe’s Associate Degree of Teacher Education, you’ll develop strong foundational skills in professional literacy, numeracy and contemporary approaches to learning. You’ll also start specialising in your chosen field – primary, secondary or early childhood and primary – and build discipline-specific knowledge, with a wide range of electives to choose from.

When you graduate, you could progress to our Bachelor of Education with advanced standing for up to two years of full-time study.

One of English Standard, English Advanced (Band 2), English as an Additional Language or Dialect (Band 3).

Admission criteria

Applicants with recent secondary education

Subject adjustments: Applicants who successfully complete one of the following HSC or equivalent Year 12 subjects will have their selection rank increased by one point per study:

  • Band 4 in English as an Additional Language or Dialect.
  • Band 3 in Ancient History, English Standard or English Advanced, Geography, Modern History, Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE), Studies of Religion II, Society and Culture
  • Band 2 in any language other than English, Mathematics Standard 2, Mathematics Advanced, Mathematics Extension 2.

Selection ranks can be increased by a maximum of five points.

Subject proficiency: Demonstrated proficiency equivalent to stated Year 12 prerequisites.
