Bachelor of Psychology

The Bachelor of Psychology provides knowledge and skills in psychology to better understand the mind, brain and behaviour. Our psychology degrees have been designed in line with the latest Australian Psychology Accreditation Council and American Psychological Association Guidelines, as well as the Australian Indigenous Psychology Education Project frameworks. This ensures that students receive cutting-edge and internationally relevant knowledge and skillsets that are highly valued by diverse employers. Students will apply psychology to many of the biggest challenges currently faced by society, including climate change and sustainability, misinformation, cybersecurity, ageing populations, human-computer interaction, and change management.  

The Bachelor of Psychology is a three-year undergraduate degree. It provides the first step (i.e., Level 1 foundational competencies*) on the pathway towards becoming a professionally accredited psychologist in Australia.

Students in this degree study developmental psychology, perceptual and cognitive processes, the brain and behaviour, research methods and statistics, mental health and wellbeing, individual differences and psychological assessment, social, positive, health, and forensic psychology, as well as a career readiness subject offering applied knowledge of, and enhanced competitiveness for, the diverse range of careers offered by a psychology degree.

As a graduate of this degree, you will be eligible to apply for further training in the APAC Level 2 pre-professional competencies, which form the second step on the pathway towards becoming a professionally accredited psychologist in Australia.

*Our undergraduate psychology courses are accredited by APAC with conditions and are classified as a professional pathway by the Department of Education.

Career opportunities

Graduates of the Bachelor of Psychology are eligible to apply for further training to become a psychologist, including careers in clinical, clinical neuropsychology, community, counselling, educational and developmental, forensic, health, organisational, and sport and exercise psychology. Psychology graduates work in a variety of additional roles, including as social worker, government policy analyst, criminal intelligence officer, human resource manager, evaluator, behavioural insights specialist, data analyst, addiction counsellor, child protection officer, cyber behaviour analyst, advertising and marketing executive, human resource manager, people advisor, and researcher.

Students will be provided with valuable opportunities to engage with our industry partners and to participate in research and work-integrated learning.

Professional recognition

The Bachelor of Psychology provides the first step (i.e., APAC Level 1 foundational competencies) on the pathway towards becoming a professionally accredited psychologist. Graduates will be eligible to apply for an additional fourth year APAC-accredited Honours program, which provides APAC Level 2 pre-professional competencies.

Honours

Available as an additional year to meritorious students through application to the Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours).
