About

The Bachelor of Public Health is a flexible and innovative degree that equips graduates with qualifications to help improve the health of individuals and populations. It is a broad field of practice, based on the application of scientific principles in governmental and non-governmental health services and the wider industry.

This transdisciplinary course is characterised by a strong emphasis on the social model of health and combines health-specific content with a mix of professional and scientific subjects. Students develop knowledge within a framework that can be tailored to suit their interests and needs.

In their majors, students will gain an in-depth understanding of Indigenous health or health promotion. Alternatively, students can develop their knowledge of global and international health priorities to contribute to overseas health initiatives and international organisations. Other student may choose to undertake the Human Structure and Function major with a view to studying physiotherapy, speech pathology or orthoptics, or other health specialties in higher degree programs at UTS and other universities.

Areas of study

Students can tailor choices to suit their needs from subject areas such as public health, health promotion, social determinants of health, Indigenous health, contemporary health issues, health systems, health policy, data analytics, epidemiology, biostatistics, global health, human structure and function, health project management, health and the environment, psychosocial health, digital health, communication, health advocacy, and sport and exercise. Students can also add electives from other faculties and schools, including business and management, Indigenous studies, and transdisciplinary studies.
