About

The Bachelor of Artificial Intelligence program is designed to meet the need for specialised industry professionals to help organisations and society make sense of the abundance of data collected every second and build autonomous solutions for a variety of applications, such as self-driving cars, facial recognition, personalised learning or voice assistants. There is a strong industry demand for artificial intelligence professionals with sound technical capabilities and a good understanding of the challenges and opportunities in this rapidly evolving field.

This course provides students with the opportunity to gain the skills and knowledge required to meet the demands of this exciting field. Students in the program engage in practical, hands-on learning using technologies to formulate and scope an AI problem, and design, develop, verify and validate solutions for defined problems. The program covers a broad range of current and emerging areas of artificial intelligence, including deep learning, reinforcement learning, image processing and natural language processing.

The Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology plan to seek accreditation from the Australian Computer Society.

Practical experience

The Diploma in Information Technology Professional Practice is an additional component of this course, comprising a minimum of nine months’ internship and supporting subjects at UTS. Full-time students normally undertake the Diploma component after completing the second year of the course.

Admission criteria

Applicants with recent secondary education

Assumed knowledge: Mathematics Advanced, any 2 units of English.

Recommended studies: Mathematics Extension 1, English Advanced.

Portfolio: Current school leavers can support their application by submitting the Year 12 Engineering and IT Portfolio via UAC.

Applicants with work and life experience

Statement of service: Applicants are advised to complete the employment question on their UAC application and provide statements of service to UAC, as an adjustment of up to five points to their selection rank may be awarded on the basis of relevant employment experience. Applicants will have had to have met the UTS minimum matriculation requirements in order for their employment experience to be assessed, and their documented employment experience must be at least one full-time year or greater.
