About

Engineers design and build liveable, sustainable cities by creating transport and housing systems, designing and building telecommunications networks. 

The Bachelor of Engineering will equip you with the fundamentals of engineering, both technical and interpersonal skills from faculty members who drive relevant and cutting-edge research. You will learn how to apply this knowledge in real situations, preparing you to engineer the future.

Throughout the degree you will study sound fundamentals and your chosen major study including architectural, biomedical, civil, computer and autonomous systems, electrical and electronics, environmental, materials, mechanical, mechatronic, mining, or telecommunications engineering and Internet of Things. From second year, Honours Scholars students will also have the option to complete a double major.

The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Scholar) includes 12-weeks hands-on industry experience, either in Australia or overseas, as well as a range of industry projects and other career-ready learning opportunities. It is designed to provide an enriched educational experience, encouraging high achievers to continue to further studies and research. It will also provide you with the opportunity to participate in tailored mentoring and advanced academic study degree.

Professional recognition

UOW’s engineering programs are accredited by Engineers Australia and relevant world engineering bodies through the Washington Accord. This ensures recognition by equivalent professional engineering bodies in the USA, UK, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, Canada, South Africa, Ireland, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore and other countries.

This recognition ensures that graduates from this course are admitted, on application, to the grade of Graduate Membership of Engineers Australia.

The biomedical engineering major will be submitted for accreditation with Engineers Australia.

Practical experience

12 weeks of industry experience in one or more settings under the supervision of experienced engineers; optional internships, industry projects and other career-ready learning opportunities.

Honours

In the final stages of the course, students undertake a research component (thesis).

Admission criteria

Applicants with recent secondary education

Assumed knowledge: Mathematics Extension 1, any 2 units of English.

Recommended studies: Chemistry, Engineering Studies, Mathematics Extension 2, Physics. (Chemistry not necessary for biomedical, computer, electrical, mechatronic or telecommunications engineering).

Bridging courses in Chemistry and Physics are offered in February each year.
