About

Explore the many possibilities of creating theatre for diverse audiences in both regional and urban settings when you study theatre making at UOW. You will discover all the elements of theatre-making (stagecraft, dramaturgy, stage management and performance-making) in order to communicate content, atmosphere and impact. You will develop skills in lighting and sound design and discover how theory and history will shape your development as an informed, professional and self-reliant practitioner.

In this highly practical course, you will learn the techniques, strategies and processes of contemporary theatre-making in a range of contexts.You will study what it takes to succeed in the creative industries and understand the elements required to create successful productions across a range of genres and mediums.

Throughout their degree, Performance and Theatre students produce and perform in their own productions throughout their degree, gaining invaluable, industry-relevant experience.

Areas of study

Directing, performance and theatre, producing, sound design and lighting, stage management, technical theatre, writing. You can take performance subjects as electives.

Practical experience

Hands-on experience in studios and theatre spaces. Public performances, both on campus and in various theatres.

Applicants with recent secondary education

Assumed knowledge: Any 2 units of English.

Recommended studies: English Advanced, Drama.
