About

Enter a career in advertising, public relations and corporate branding when you study a Bachelor of Journalism with a Bachelor of Communication and Media. You will learn how to present news and information to a wide range of audiences while gaining the skills to write, edit and publish a broad variety of written and digital content. You will be able to research, plan and execute communication campaigns, produce content across multiple mediums, and will acquire skills in issue management, product publicity, crisis communications, and media relations.

You'll benefit by learning from recognised and passionate leaders in their fields. You will learn core fundamentals across practical and theoretical subjects in the first year of your double degree before deciding which major disciplines to focus on from the second year. You'll be immersed in practical, hands-on learning as part of the UOWTV Multimedia student newsroom, and produce coverage for its website, YouTube channel and social media platforms. You will have real deadlines and will engage with the community and industry as you explore and innovate within journalism’s changing environment, including podcasting, data journalism and immersive video. Throughout this double degree, you will gain hands-on experience and make meaningful professional connections.

Areas of study

Bachelor of Journalism: Broadcast journalism, photojournalism, print journalism, web-based journalism. Bachelor of Communication and Media: Digital and social media, screen media production, journalism, marketing communication and advertising, visual communication design.

Practical experience

Students are part of the UOWTV Multimedia student newsroom, and produce coverage for its website, YouTube channel and social media platforms. Students can also undertake internships as part of the degree and will graduate with a portfolio of work that you can present to future employers and clients.
