A Bachelor of Communication and Media - Bachelor of Laws from UOW provides you with a thorough grounding in the law, as well as a real-world focus on the essential practical knowledge of our media landscape. Combining law with studies in communication and media will prepare you to engage with global media industries and culture and provide a strong emphasis on developing research skills to understand the social and ethical context in which the law operates.

Learn how new media shapes the political, legal, and social landscape and the legal considerations of emerging media within the workplace, while you prepare for a career in the world of digital communications and social media with a solid understanding of the law.

Additionally, as part of your legal studies, an integrated skills program will equip you with experience in areas such as legal research, interviewing, legal drafting, advocacy and
negotiation.

Bachelor of Laws: Solicitor, barrister, policy officer in government departments, in- house lawyer in private companies and community legal centres, accounting, banking and finance, business and management, education, government administration, media and communications. Bachelor of Communication and Media: Media research and analyst, corporate communications officer, digital content creator, social media manager, advertising and marketing specialist, publisher, copywriter, government media policy advisor, feature writer, publicity officer, media educator.

Professional recognition

Bachelor of Laws: Eligible for admission as a lawyer in Australia, subject to completing state-approved Practical Legal Training (PLT). Further details for NSW students can be found at the Legal Profession Admission Board website.

Practical experience

Bachelor of Laws: Legal internship provides 20 working days of professional experience. Bachelor of Communication and Media: Portfolio of works developed across the duration of the course.

Honours

Bachelor of Laws: Bachelor of Laws (Honours) is awarded on the basis of excellent performance throughout the course, as well as in a Legal Research Methodology subject and a Legal Research Thesis. Bachelor of Laws (Honours by Research) is available as an additional year of study to meritorious students.

Bachelor of Communication and Media: Available as an additional year of study to meritorious students.
