About
This 12-month program will provide students with the opportunity to pursue a degree in Architectural Studies, Interior Architecture or Landscape Architecture. Students will complete a set of courses that gives them foundational skills and knowledge in their specific area of study. Successful completion of these courses will satisfy the first-year requirements for a program at UNSW Sydney, and students will be granted credit towards an undergraduate degree for equivalent courses.
In this Diploma program students will be able to experience a university environment and university life, while being supported to acquire all of the knowledge and skills needed for successful transition to undergraduate studies at UNSW. The courses in this program have been designed to be equivalent in content and outcomes to first year UNSW courses but the pace is slower and the weekly contact hours are greater. The course structure allows students to get accustomed to University learning styles - in Lectures, Studios, and Workshops - while receiving additional support as required for the duration of the Diploma.
After successful completion of a stream of eight courses, students will receive credit (advanced standing) for first year and they will progress into the second year to pursue studies in their chosen Bachelor Degree:
- Bachelor of Architectural Studies,
- Bachelor of Interior Architecture (Honours), or
- Bachelor of Landscape Architecture (Honours)
Areas of study
Architecture is about exploring and redefining what place means to people. As emerging architects at UNSW, students will focus on the physical form of design, and the elevated thinking that supports it. Students will learn how to design buildings and settings that will influence and benefit the future of individuals and communities within them. Students will also learn how to address every angle in this process, taking wider sustainability, cultural and economic needs into consideration.
Our teaching staff include registered architects and academics in an inclusive, collaborative learning environment. With their guidance, Students will develop the design skills and technical knowledge to establish impactful careers and influence the industry’s future.

Applicants with recent secondary education
For admission to the Diploma, an applicant is expected to have completed Secondary School or the equivalent, such as University Foundation Studies, prior to commencement of their studies. For further details, including a statement on English language requirements, please see the Diplomas website.

Progression Requirements: Students must complete and receive a minimum of a Pass grade in 8 courses (including the Communication and Academic Literacy course) to be eligible for a Diploma and to be guaranteed Articulation into second year of the relevant undergraduate degree program at UNSW.
