^ The indicative annual tuition fee is based on a full-time student enrolment load of 48 credit points per year, or 1.0 Equivalent Full-Time Student Load (1.0 EFTSL). Tuition fees are reviewed annually and may increase each year. Tuition fees are calculated on a student’s exact enrolment. UNSW students enrolled in most courses have some flexibility in the subjects they choose. At times these subjects will be from outside their own faculty. For example, a Commerce student may choose elective subjects from a range of other faculties; a student in a combined Law degree with Engineering or Science will choose subjects from Science and Engineering and subjects from Law. These choices may result in a higher or lower total fee for the year.
About
This degree equips students for a flexible career as a professional engineer and a professional surveyor. This double degree is designed to allow students to gain accreditation as both Engineers and Surveyors, which gives them flexibility in their future careers. The Civil Engineering degree provides students with an excellent grounding in theory and applications, through the study of structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, transport engineering and water engineering, as well as construction and management. The Surveying component prepares graduates for opportunities in the various branches of Surveying and the numerous Spatial Information disciplines.

Areas of study
For Civil: Civil engineering, engineering construction and management, geotechnical engineering, structural engineering, transport engineering, water engineering. For Surveying: Engineering and mining surveying, cadastral surveying and land law, modern geodesy, navigation and earth observation, precise GPS/GNSS positioning, satellite and airborne imaging, surveying applications and design business management, sustainable land development and management, water and soil engineering.
Career opportunities
For Civil: Graduates are employed by professional consulting firms, construction companies, large public companies, government organisations and financial and management consultancies. For Surveying: Surveying graduates work in a variety of fields including urban and rural development, oil and gas exploration, mining and engineering construction, climate change monitoring, land management and planning, cadastral surveying and land law, hydrographic surveying as well as aerial imaging and cartography.
Professional recognition
Students can apply for membership of the relevant professional engineering or science institutions within Australia and affiliated overseas bodies, including Engineers Australia. International recognition offers graduates the opportunity to travel and work overseas.
Industrial experience: Students complete at least 60 working days of approved industrial experience as part of all accredited Engineering programs.
Honours
Honours Class 1 or 2 will be awarded on the basis of superior performance throughout the course.

Admission criteria
Applicants with recent secondary education
Assumed knowledge: Mathematics Extension 1, Physics.
Bridging courses: Visit the UNSW website for information on UNSW Bridging Courses chemistry, mathematics and physics.
Portfolio Entry: Early Conditional Offer Scheme: This degree is eligible for the Portfolio Entry Early Conditional Offer Scheme. You can submit a portfolio to demonstrate your passion for your chosen degree and receive an early conditional offer with an adjusted ATAR entry requirement. Students are required to submit a video and personal statement conveying their motivation and passion towards studying Engineering, Computer Science or Food Science.
