About

Defined as the study of the human mind and behaviour, and characterised by both scientific research and applied professional practice, psychology plays an important role in modern society. An understanding of human behaviour will give you an edge in a variety of careers, including human resources, law, education, social work, criminology, market research and computer programming.

The Bachelor of Psychology will provide you with a scientific understanding of the psychological processes that underlie behaviour. You’ll get exposure to a range of fundamental psychological concepts, as well as to specialised areas such as child psychology, neuropsychology, social and personality psychology, organisational psychology, cognition and perception, and psychopathology. When followed by an honours year, this degree is a pathway to postgraduate study, which will enable you to become a qualified psychologist.

From 2024, honours in psychology can be undertaken via the new one-year Bachelor of Psychological Sciences (Honours). Applications to this degree are available to those who have successfully completed a Bachelor of Psychology, and who meet the required WAM and additional criteria. Following postgraduate study, a further two years of postgraduate training or supervised experience is required for registration as a psychologist.

Areas of study

Biopsychology and learning, cognition and perception, counselling and psychological wellbeing, emotion, health psychology, intercultural and Indigenous psychology, motivation, neuroscience, organisational psychology, personality and principles of psychological assessment, psychopathology, research design and statistics, social and developmental psychology.
