About
Create positive change to current and future thriving communities, develop your knowledge, build your health literacy, and apply skills in real world situations with a focus on promoting health and wellbeing in people’s lives. Through practical, hands-on experience, international opportunities, and experiences with leading researchers and industry engaged academics, you will be prepared for clinical and non-clinical roles. Build a comprehensive foundation of health sciences knowledge and pursue majors in public health, health promotion management, recreational therapy or clinical sciences. This is not a generic health science course but one that is designed to give you the unique edge for your preferred destination within health. If your aspirations are different to the identified health specialisations in this course, then the clinical sciences major has been designed to prepare students for a pathway to graduate clinical health studies.
The Clinical Sciences major is not offered at the Sydney City campus.
Areas of study
Public health, health promotion, health services management, recreational therapy, or clinical sciences. Students can choose to study one or two majors, or a combination of majors and minors to differentiate their skill set and increase their expertise and employability.
Career opportunities
Roles for international and national health organisations and services in the clinical and non-clinical health setting. Health promotion and recreational therapy graduates will work with communities or individuals in aged care, disability and health facilities, schools, lifestyle and correctional centres. Public health and health services management graduates will work in disease control, health policy, strategy, departmental and project management roles. Clinical sciences supports future study in a clinical health professional role.
Professional recognition
Health Services Management: Accredited by Australasian College of Health Services Management (ACHSM). Graduates are eligible for membership of ACHSM.
Recreational Therapy: The recreational therapy course is the only bachelor degree of its kind in Australia, accredited by Diversional and Recreation Therapy Australia (DRTA), and as such graduates are also eligible to be employed as Diversional Therapists under the State Award. Graduates are eligible for membership of DRTA.
Practical experience
Health Promotion and Public Health: One 140-hour placement/ePlacement. Health Services Management: Two placement blocks totalling 280 hours. Recreational Therapy: Three placement blocks totalling 720 hours. Clinical Sciences: Optional 140 hours placement through the selection of a second major.

Bachelor of Applied Data Science
Bachelor of Applied Data Science is a cross-disciplinary degree that can be taken in combination with any Western Sydney University bachelor degree.
The course teaches a blend of skills, including mathematics, statistics and computing. Graduates will know how to embark on data-driven investigations, and conduct visual and computational analytics for application in their own primary research.
Expressions of interest in the course will be taken during the UAC application process, and eligible students who have expressed an interest and received an offer to another Western Sydney University course will be invited to join the Bachelor of Applied Data Science.
Bachelor of Creative Leadership
If you aspire to enter the workforce with a competitive edge and heightened employability, the Bachelor of Creative Leadership is tailored for you!
This degree can be taken concurrently with any Western Sydney University bachelor’s degree and provides you the opportunity to cultivate comprehensive knowledge and skills in leadership and ethics, empowering you to enhance your ability to navigate complexity through advanced logical, entrepreneurial, and systems thinking.
This program is made available to high-achieving students only and requires a minimum GPA of 5 for entry.
Bachelor of Entrepreneurship
Bachelor of Entrepreneurship is a cross-disciplinary degree that can be taken with any Western Sydney University bachelor degree.
The program will develop mindset, risk tolerance, creativity, passion, big thinking, team formation and leadership capabilities – the key distinct characteristics of high impact entrepreneurs. In an entrepreneurial ecosystem, students will learn the knowledge and techniques for opportunity discovery, impact analysis, customer analysis, strategic teambuilding and leadership, the psychology and ethics of the start-up, funding modelling and financial analysis, growth and exit strategies.
Master of Research
This is an elite research degree available to meritorious students in most undergraduate degrees. As an internationally recognised qualification it will allow students to access global employment opportunities and research education.
