The Bachelor of Public Health Bachelor of Sustainability and Environment is a comprehensive four-year degree that blends professional, scientific, and social health perspectives to address global health and environmental challenges. It equips students with the skills to improve health outcomes while tackling sustainability as a social, environmental, and economic issue.
The Public Health component covers key areas such as health promotion, epidemiology, and ecological health impacts, preparing students to interpret scientific evidence and data to drive health innovation. The Sustainability and Environment component enhances these goals by focusing on planetary health and the links between environmental and human wellbeing.
Students engage with industry and community partners through real-world projects and professional placements, gaining practical experience in environmental and health sectors.
Graduates are prepared for careers in health and environmental policy, sustainability consulting, and community health initiatives, addressing pressing health and ecological challenges in government, non-government, and industry settings.
The major focus of this degree is on public health, health systems, and the intersection of health with the environment and sustainability. The broad range of subjects include public health, health promotion, social determinants of health, Indigenous health, contemporary health issues, health systems, health policy, data analytics, epidemiology, biostatistics, global health, human structure and function, health project management, health and the environment, psychosocial health, digital health, communication, health advocacy, and sport and exercise. On the sustainability and environment side of the course, students will study areas such as environmental protection, environmental science and management, environmental, social, cultural and economic sustainability, decarbonization, industrial development, and governance.
Careers are usually determined by the professional degree and span roles in industry, science, public and private sectors, academia and business including community development, research and consultancy. Roles include sustainability project officer, sustainability consultant, environmental scientist, sustainability director, social and environmental impact lead, corporate social responsibility manager, communication and stakeholder engagement lead, business analyst, environmental compliance specialist, environmental planner, sustainability evaluation lead, health scientist, as well as opportunities to work in health and international development.
Two professional placement is undertaken in year 4.
