About
The course adopts a practice-based approach to IT education. Its content is designed with a mix of theory and practice. As well as gaining strong technical skills in IT, students gain skills in problem solving, teamwork and communication. Employers look for graduates with industry experience and in this course, students are exposed to real IT problems and can apply classroom learning on the job through the diploma.

Practical experience
The Diploma in Information Technology Professional Practice is an additional component of this course, comprising a minimum nine months of internship and supporting subjects at UTS. Full-time students normally undertake the Diploma component after completing the second year of the course.

Applicants with recent secondary education
Assumed knowledge: Mathematics Advanced, any 2 units of English.
Recommended studies: Mathematics Extension 1, English Advanced.
Portfolio: Current school leavers can support their application by submitting the Year 12 Engineering and IT Portfolio via UAC.
Other applicants
Statement of service: Applicants are advised to complete the employment question on their UAC application and provide statements of service to UAC, as an adjustment of up to five points to their selection rank may be awarded on the basis of relevant employment experience. Applicants will have had to have met the UTS minimum matriculation requirements in order for their employment experience to be assessed, and their documented employment experience must be at least one full-time year or greater.
