This course will give you a professional qualification to teach children from birth to five years in early childhood education settings. The course incorporates introductory and advanced curriculum units with a strong social justice and leadership focus. Practical skills are developed through work-based placements in early childhood settings and an honours program is available for students interested in developing their research capabilities.
This course is full-time study, daytime only.
Specialist units in early childhood education and development. General units in education and professional studies including child development and learning; early childhood curriculum and teaching; management, leadership and advocacy in early childhood education; families, community and diversity; study in key learning areas (eg arts, literacy, mathematics, science).
Teaching in a range of early learning centres and preschools (birth–5 years). This qualification is not suitable for teachers seeking employment in the Kindergarten to Year 6 school sector.
This qualification is approved by the Australian Children's Education and Care Quality Authority.
You will obtain professional experience in a range of early childhood settings totalling 90 days over the course of your studies. An internship in the fourth year involves the creation of learning experiences for young children within a supported professional context.
The Australian Government subsidises the tuition fee for this course. The remaining balance is paid by the student. Current University of Sydney fee information.

Inherent requirements: To successfully complete this course, a student must be able to carry out a list of inherent requirements outlined on the University of Sydney website.
Band 5 in three HSC subjects or interstate equivalent, one of which must be English.

Open Learning Environment (OLE)
Open Learning Environment (OLE) units are short, on-demand and workshop- supported. They enable you to broaden your skills in areas such as entrepreneurial thinking, persuasive communication, project management and ethical reasoning. OLEs are available to all students at the University, while students commencing in liberal studies degrees (Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Commerce or combined Bachelor of Advanced Studies) and some specialist degrees (Bachelor of Economics) must complete 6 credit points of OLE units.
