Admission criteria

Applicants with recent secondary education

Assumed knowledge: Any 2 units of English

Applicants who have completed senior secondary studies are eligible for admission.

Applicants who achieve an ATAR (or equivalent) of 50 or above are eligible for consideration.

Applicants with higher education study

Applicants who have completed a minimum of 2 units of study are eligible for admission.

Applicants with vocational education and training (VET) study

Applicants who have completed a VET program at Certificate III or higher are eligible for admission.

Applicants with work and life experience

The University of Newcastle accepts a range of qualifications, including STAT tests, enabling’/pathway programs, professional qualifications, employment experience, and Australian Defense Force experience. For more information visit
