About
Psychological science is a fascinating area which examines the cause of human behaviour.
This understanding is then used to solve practical problems that will positively impact the lives of others. By combining with the Bachelor of Media and Communication, students of this program could research the influence of social media on human behaviour, while developing cutting-edge skills needed to produce groundbreaking, thought-provoking and engaging work across diverse media industries. With a range of course options, you’ll learn to push your individual creative boundaries, while examining the changing nature of today’s complex social landscapes.

Animation, clinical and abnormal behaviour, cognition and information processing, communication, developmental psychology, experience creation, media production, neuroscience, news and digital media, perceptual processes and learning theory, psychopharmacology, public relations and strategic communication, research methodology, social psychology and personality, statistics, user experience (UX) design.

Public relations manager, feature writer, film/television production assistant, film and documentary maker, news and specialist reporter, practising psychologist (with additional years of study), case worker, mediator, case manager, careers counsellor, market researcher, juvenile justice officer.
Professional recognition
This program is accredited with the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC). Upon completion of an APAC-accredited undergraduate degree, students who go on to complete further study in psychology will be eligible for provisional registration as a psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia.
Note: After completion of an APAC-accredited undergraduate degree, a further minimum of three years education and training in psychology is required to register as a psychologist in Australia.
Practical experience
Students are invited to take advantage of our business partnership networks with NBN Television, The Newcastle Herald, ABC 1233, the university radio station 2NURFM, and internships with Channel 7 and Foxtel.
Additional work integrated learning opportunities may include School of Psychology research spaces, the University of Newcastle Psychology Community Clinic and external professional agencies.
Honours
Available as an additional year (or part time equivalent) to meritorious students.

Admission criteria
Applicants with recent secondary education
Assumed knowledge: Mathematics Standard or higher, English Standard or higher.
Recommended studies: Biology, English Advanced.
