About

Sophisticated robots that are used to defuse bombs, deactivate mines and explore shipwrecks wouldn’t exist without mechatronic engineers – engineers who bring together technologies from mechanical design, electronic systems, telecommunications and computing.

The Mechatronic Engineering specialisation will equip you with skills to design and construct the robots and their computer systems that will be responsible for creating the autonomous future. You’ll learn how to apply modelling, measurement and simulation techniques, and design software tools to solve problems in a broad range of electromechanical engineering areas, such as robotics , automation, control systems and relevant manufacturing processes. You’ll develop knowledge to design, implement, test, deploy and consider the long-term maintenance of large interdisciplinary (electronic, mechanical, software) systems.

Areas of study

Electric and magnetic interactions; embedded systems; engineering dynamics; engineering mathematics; engineering physics; feedback control and dynamic systems; hardware, design and systems; linear circuits and devices; mechanical design; microelectro mechanical systems; robotics and automation; signals and systems; wireless mechatronics.

Career opportunities

Automation engineer, building management system engineer, consultant, control system design engineer, designer and manufacturer, electronic engineer, mechatronic engineer, medical and technology device engineer, project manager, research and development manager.

Practical experience

You’ll undertake a work-integrated learning activity with a partner organisation.

ATAR profile

ATAR-based offers only (semester 1, 2023)

Use all ATAR profile data as a guide only; it provides a broad overview of the ATARs and selection ranks of previous Year 12 students admitted into that course. ATARs and selection ranks required for entry in 2024 may be different. If you are unsure about including a course among your preferences, contact the relevant institution.

  1. This ATAR profile table is in line with Commonwealth Government transparency requirements. It is based on offers to recent school leavers (ie completed Year 12 in the last 2 years) who were selected solely or partly on their ATAR. Note that some institutions further differentiate this information on their websites.
  2. The ATAR values exclude any adjustment factors.
  3. The selection ranks include the ATAR and any adjustment factors.

Abbreviations

– = data is not available.
