The Graduate Diploma of International Affairs (GDIA) is a flexible one year full-time (or part-time equivalent) postgraduate qualification designed to equip you with the knowledge and skills required for understanding emerging issues in international, political and strategic affairs, both globally and in Asia and the Pacific.
Through a wide range of master degree course choices, students will learn how to critically analyse international affairs and foreign and defence policies. The GDIA will engage students in a diverse range of disciplines and explore how issues such as globalisation, development, democratisation, terrorism, human security, war and conflict drive political developments in the Asia Pacific region and around the world.
The program provides a pathway for entry into ANU master programs in diplomacy, international relations, strategic studies and political science. Students who are considering proceeding from this qualification into an approved master program should seek academic advice from the relevant program convenor in order to ensure that the courses taken during the Graduate Diploma are eligible for credit toward their chosen master degree.

Unless otherwise indicated, ANU will accept all Australian Qualifications Framework qualifications or international equivalents that meet or exceed the published admission requirements of our programs, provided all other admission requirements are also met. Where an applicant has more than one completed tertiary qualification, ANU will base assessment on the qualification that best meets the admission requirements for the program.
ANU uses a 7-point grade point average (GPA) scale. All qualifications submitted for admission at ANU will be converted to this common scale, which will determine if an applicant meets our published admission requirements. Find out how a 7-point GPA is calculated for Australian universities.
Unless otherwise indicated, where an applicant has more than one completed tertiary qualification, ANU will calculate the GPA for each qualification separately. ANU will base assessment on the best GPA of all completed tertiary qualifications that are eligible to be considered.
For information about course credit for previous studies, see the program entry or read about course credit or exemption on the ANU website.
