It’s a wrap. Applications for study in 2018 have closed

30 Jul 2018

APPLICATIONS for tertiary study in 2018 have closed and thousands of students are busy working towards achieving their dreams.

While applications were down, offers increased by almost 12,000, meaning applicants have more options for tertiary study than ever.

UAC’s General Manager of Marketing and Engagement, Kim Paino, says, ‘Applications were down because of a flattening of demand and also a trend towards direct applications to university for some segments. But offers were up thanks to more offer rounds, and particularly the introduction of a pre-Christmas offer round for Year 12 students. This ended up being our largest offer round, with over 40,000 offers.’

A breakdown of application and offer statistics is below.

Data for this admissions period shows that for Year 12 students Society and Culture – a mix of traditional humanities courses including law and psychology – was the most popular field of study, followed by Health.

For non-Year 12 applicants it was reversed, with Health the most popular field of study, followed by Society and Culture.

For international students the most popular broad field of study was Management and Commerce, followed by a tie between Society and Culture and Engineering and Related Technologies.

It will be interesting to see what is popular this year, with applications for more than 2,000 courses opening on Wednesday 1 August.

With their last term of high school now underway, Year 12 students have also just received their UAC Guide with information on courses and how to apply.

More application statistics can be viewed on UAC’s website.
