How to apply

Apply online directly to Kent Institute Australia at Do not apply through UAC.

To be eligible for admission into Kent courses, all applicants must meet the relevant academic entry requirements for the respective course as published on the courses page of the Kent website. All applicants must be a minimum 18 years of age prior to course commencement.

Applicants with a recent secondary education (within the past two years)

Bachelor degrees

Kent will admit students who have an Australian Certificate of Education, successful completion of Year 12 (Sound or Satisfactory achievement in all subjects or ATAR 58.00).

Diploma courses

Successful completion of Australian year 12 or equivalent.

Criteria that may apply in addition to the ATAR

A passing grade in a mathematics subject is also required for the Bachelor of Information Technology.

Applicants with higher education study

Applicants who have successfully undertaken higher education study within the last ten years since leaving school may be eligible for direct admission to a Bachelor course.

Recognition of prior learning

Students may be eligible for exemption from studying part of a course as a result of previous study, experience or recognition of a competency currently held. This includes academic credit and recognition of prior learning (RPL). Students must provide original or certified documentation such as relevant transcripts, subject descriptions and work experience in support of their application. Completed applications must be submitted within four (4) weeks of the course commencing.

Completed bridging or enabling course

Assessed by Kent individually and on a case-by-case basis.

Applicants with vocational education and training (VET) study

Bachelor degrees and diploma courses

Successful completion of a Certificate IV qualification or equivalent.

Recognition of prior learning

Students may be eligible for exemption from studying part of a course as a result of previous VET studies. Applicants who have successfully completed a Diploma qualification or higher within the last ten years since leaving school may be eligible for direct admission to a Bachelor course with credit transfers (advanced standing).

Applicants with work and life experience

Bridging and enabling course entry

Assessed by Kent individually and on a case-by-case basis.

Employment experience

Kent understands that preparation for study is not restricted to formal educational attainment and that valuable intellectual and skills development can be gained through wide ranging experiences. Kent will review applications on a case-by-case basis from persons of at least 21 years of age, who do not have formal qualifications for entry but who seek admission to courses on the basis of their educational and skills development through experience and informal study.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people

Kent offers an Indigenous Access Scholarship, designed to provide opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to support their personal and academic success and to provide access to students who might otherwise struggle to meet the cost of studies. Each Scholarship application is assessed on a case-by-case basis, and all successful applicants will be notified in writing.

Selection criteria:

  • Must be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander status and
  • Meet the entry requirements of Kent Institute Australia.

Domestic applications with overseas qualifications

To ascertain the deemed equivalency to the required Australian qualification level, all overseas academic qualifications will be assessed for the relevant country, education level and/or institution by Kent against the Country Education Profiles (CEP) on the Australian government’s Department of Education and Training website. English language requirements

To better assist international students from all regions of the world, Kent recognises a variety of formal English language tests and previous studies, which can be accepted as a deemed equivalency to meet Kent’s English Language Proficiency Requirements. Bachelor degrees

IELTS (Academic) 6.0 overall score with no band less than 5.5 or equivalent.

Certificate and Diploma courses

IELTS (Academic) 5.5 overall score with no band less than 5.0 or equivalent.

Acceptance of offer

Students will receive information about acceptance and enrolment procedures with your letter of offer.

Advanced standing

Students can apply for course credit on the basis of their previous studies at Kent or any other educational institution in Australia or overseas in accordance with Kent’s Course Credit and Articulation Policy & Procedure.


Students wishing to defer their course commencement need to notify Kent in writing. Kent will hold all prepaid tuition fees in trust without penalty until the student enrols in the course.
