Australian Maritime College English language proficiency requirements

Australian Maritime College recognises a number of English language tests as proof of English language proficiency. These are set out in the following tables, together with the minimum results required.

At least two years of tertiary study

TOEFL (only results obtained no more than 2 years prior to 1 January of the year in which the course starts, e.g. for all courses starting in 2019 - test must have been taken on or after 1 January 2017)

Paper-based score: 550 (min. 4.5 in TWE)

Internet-based score: 72 (min. 10 in reading, 9 in listening, 16 in speaking, 19 in writing)

IELTS (only Academic version results obtained no more than 2 years prior to 1 January of the year in which the course starts, e.g. for all courses starting in 2019 - test must have been taken on or after 1 January 2017)

6.0 overall (min. 5.5 in each subtest)
PTE Academic (only results obtained no more than 2 years prior to 1 January of the year in which the course starts, e.g. for all courses starting in 2019 - test must have been taken on or after 1 January 2017)50 overall (min. 42 in listening, reading, speaking and writing)

International Baccalaureate (Diploma must be awarded)

Nov. 2012 session & earlier:  English A2 at higher or standard level Grade 6 or better (prior to May 1999, ‘standard level’ was referred to as ‘subsidiary level’)

May 2013 session & onwards: Grade 3 in English A: Language & Literature or English A: Literature at higher level OR Grade 4 in English A: Language & Literature or English A: Literature at standard level
